So what did you all think? Like it, love it? A little confused? What did you think of the ending?
DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK AND WOULD LIKE TO!!
Well, to start out, I've read the book twice and loved it both times! I was first introduced to POTO because of the book. The beginning of the book confused me a lot the first time I read it. The second time was much easier. For one, I was older, and two, I had already read it! But I think Leroux did an incredably good job changing the narrator of the story from one character to another. It made the book interesting and provided the reader with a window to look at what that character was thinking. I think one of my favorite chapters would have to be the Safety Pin and the envelope one. I loved how Erik tricked them. I loved the ending. I was dramatic and brought the book to an end very nicely.

Oh yeah, the safety pin. ;D One of my favorites as well. Too bad it's never been in the musical or any of the movies.

I loved the book. I have parts of it memorized. I loved the setting and the words they used as in like the phrases because they are so different from our phrases now.
Anyway, I am like in LOVE with the book.

The book is so different from the musical, but I find both to be excellent. The book, even though it make Erik darker than the musical, made me fall completely in love with his character. I felt such compassion for him, even though he was a bit "disturbed" by today's critics. The book was well written and I loved it.

The book made me like to hate Erik. The musical gave him a lovable side. The book gave him a sick, twisted, demented side. But I love versions the same.

I loved the book. At the time when I was reading it I was in London and then Pairs(YES I know I got to go in the real Opera House!!!!). Any way I loved it. I loved the Toutour(spelling?) Room the best, it was just so cool! I have all ways loved Erik, and this has put an even deeper love of him in me (:

I really loved the book, but made me really dislike Erik *ducks from Erik phangirls* (Please, don't hate me for this!). Erik's idea of love is Christine being awed by him and her never taking his mask off and they will have fun. He will be her musician, and her magician, and her vantriliquest. But what she needs is someone who will protect her, who will love her no matter what. If you "disobey" Erik, you go into his toture chamber. I asked myself the entire time through the book "Who would you rather have, Christina, Raoul-- someone who will love you and care for you and protect you and is kind? or Erik-- some one who is a murderer, ped, and insane?" I definatly chose Raoul. (Please, please, please please PLEASE don't hate me) But people don't or refuse to see that Erik is a murderer, insane, and was in love with Christine when she was seven years old and he was about forty.... (again, offending y'all was not my intent.)

This was the second Phantom thing I came into contact with (the first being the '04) film. And I must say, it holds a special place in my heart. It satiated some of my morbidity, which rocked. It wasn't overly romantic, but there were hints of a great love within Erik's mind that got to my emotional side. Great read.
