So what did you all think about the new 2004 movie based on ALW's Musical? How did Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, and Patrick Wilson do? Did you like it, love it, hate it...? Discuss what you thought here.
I personally loved it! I think it was a new aspect to the old story. It may have been different from the play but it was still beautifully played out. I think they cast Gerard Butler to bring in a younger audience because of his sex appeal even though his voice wasn't perfect. Emmy did an awesome job and Patrick sang well (even though I don't like Raoul very much). The sets were stunning and the costumes, gorgeous! I loved it even though it wasn't exactly like the play.

Yeah, I saw some different aspects, according to the music. They didn't put in the 'Rehersal' for Don Wan (sp) like they did on the CD. I loved it too. It was really good, and I liked all the actors.

I enjoy finding the little mistakes now that I've seen it so many times ^_^ And, by the way, it's Don Juan I thought the movie was brilliant, though I'm a little biased considering the main character, The Phantom, is my favourite actor. Don't you just love the beginning where everything changes? I love it so much! And the Point of No Return scene! ^_^

I liked the old man (Raoul). But really, if it weren't for Butler as the Phantom, Rossum as Christine, the so-called "Red Death" costume (stupid, stupid Joel!) I'd love the movie. Edit: One more thing.... They call THAT a deformation?!

I absolutley adored it! Gerard Butler was wonderful, Minnie Driver was fantastic, Emmy Rossum was outstanding, Patrick Wilson was fabulous... need I go on? I must say though, there were spots I hoped they would explain more like they did in the book. But other than that, it was FANTASTIC! Although, I must admit I am quite disappointed I didn't get to be Christine.... (just kidding).
Personally, I like Emmy Rossum's "Christine" voice (if you will) better than Brightman's. and same with Gerry's "Phantom" voice as apposed to Crawfords.

I Loved Gerard Butler's voice. i found his voice out did almost all other phantoms. Patrick Wilson I loved too. I thought he was really good. But the whole thing with the long hair and you put that with his young sounding voice, it didn't really work. I loved his voice but his hair made me not like his character. Weird I know. Over all I liked all the people they got to do the movie. It was very good.

Hey mrsgerardbutler! I agree with you! I thought his hair was just too... I don't even know. I think long hair looks good on some men but not others. Not on Patrick Wilson anyways. Maybe if it wasn't so straight it would be better? Who knows? lol
